Ontario Mining Association (OMA)
was established in 1920 to represent
the mining industry of the province. It
is one of the longest serving trade organizations
in the country. OMA members are engaged
in exploring, producing and processing mineral
resources in an environmentally responsible
manner. The OMA handles a broad range of
duties on behalf of its members. The three
major functions of the OMA include government
relations, education and public communications.

Prospectors and Developers Association of
Canada (PDAC) is a national
association representing the interests of
the mineral exploration and development
industry. The association, which includes
individual and corporate members, was established
in March 1932. The PDAC exists to protect
and promote the interests of the Canadian
mineral exploration sector and ensure a
robust mining industry in Canada.

Mining Industry Training and Adjustment
Board (MITAC) is the Canadian
mining industry's human resource sector
council. MITAC contributes to the strength,
competitiveness and sustainability of the
Canadian metals and minerals industry by
collaborating with industry, organized labour,
educational institutions, the aboriginal
community and other groups to develop and
implement solutions to the industry's human
resource challenges.

Ontario Ministry of Northern Development
and Mines (MNDM) supports
the mineral industry in Ontario by providing
it with valuable information about the province's
geology. It also delivers and administers
Ontario's Mining Act to improve the investment
climate for mineral development.

which is based in Sudbury, is responsible
for the collection, interpretation and dissemination
of geological, geochemical and geophysical

group of mining companies to promote and
manage collaborative research. Former multi-sponsored
research efforts MRD, MIROC and MITEC, have
been amalgamated in CAMIRO to improve service,
reduce duplication and increase the efficiency
of administrative expenditures.

Research Corporation (MIRARCO),
founded in 1998, is a not-for-profit
applied research and technical service company
formed through collaboration between Laurentian
University and the private and public sectors.
MIRARCO promotes mining innovation and provides

Natural Resources Canada/CANMET is
the Minerals and Metals Sector (MMS) of
Natural Resources Canada and is the federal
government's primary source of scientific
and technological knowledge, and policy
advice, on Canada's mineral and metal resources
and on explosives technology. MMS devotes
a large portion of its resources to science
and technology, and houses three of Canada's
premier scientific research institutions
(the CANMET Mining and Mineral Sciences
Laboratories, the CANMET Materials Technology
Laboratory, and the CANMET Canadian Explosives
Research Laboratory).
